I encountered an exceedingly inexperienced and confrontational Helmsmen operating a Stoke Bruerne Boat Company canal boat.I had my small vessel moored outside The Boat Inn on one of the designated mooring points. The helmsmen performed an illegal turn in the canal (not in a designated winding hole) and insisted on turning his vessel in line with my boat, despite the width of the canal being made narrower still further by my vessel. His vessel came dangerously close to mine and the wash knocked things over on my vessel.When I challenged the helmsman and asked him why he couldnt turn in a porthole or at least further upstream, he simple replied that he always turned there and that was his spot!A very amateur, immature and discourteous helmsman, not in keeping the usually friendly and welcoming community on the Grand Union canal.
